Fishing Time… Feuilette May 2025

Fishing means so many things to us all. It’s not just about catching fish — it’s about time spent on the bank, trying to find peace and harmony with nature. It’s about scanning the waters in front of us, sharing those moments with mates, and making memories that stay with us long after we pack up.

As some of you know, no two weeks are the same — and that was certainly the case when I headed to France with my fishing partner, Graham. We packed expecting T-shirt weather… but reality had other plans! Winter clothes were needed, as a cold north-easterly wind blew straight into our swim.

We did think about moving — especially when we saw the anglers opposite us sneaking rods into a vacant peg — but we decided to tough it out. It wasn’t ideal, but hey, that’s fishing.

To be honest, we were catching fish… just not the ones we came for. Bream after bream until Wednesday — halfway through the week — when things started to shift.

Now, if we agree that “fishing is fishing, ” then we’d already done alright. But when the carp finally turned up, it changed everything.

Graham was first to strike gold, landing a cracking 37lb mirror, followed by an absolute stunner at 49lb. What a beauty! I finally got my moment too — a double take brought me a 22lb common and a lovely 37lb mirror, the latter caught on the Dragonfly Aligner Spinner Rig. Funny thing is, in the video I said it was the Multi Bait Boilie — but I got my wires crossed. Easy done in the excitement!

The next day, it just got better. I banked a 46lb mirror and a 44lb common — both caught on the Multi Bait Delivery Hook Bait System paired with Ultipoint Hooks. Absolute pleasure.

Then, on our final full day, Graham’s alarms sang that magic tune. He sprinted to the rod, unsure if it was just another bream — we’d caught more than our fair share! But no… to our surprise, it turned out to be a massive 53lb 8oz grass carp. And what a battle it gave! A new PB for Graham — and the perfect way to cap off the trip.

For me, that moment summed it all up. After the challenges, the cold winds, and the endless watching and waiting, my mate had a huge smile on his face. What more could you ask for?

Enjoy it. It’s fishing.

Regards,

Phil
