Carp Fishing at Range: Tom Perry’s 32lb 5oz Mirror
Carp fishing at range brings its own challenges. Once a rig is fishing a long way from the bank, confidence in your presentation becomes even more important.
Tom Perry recently put that into practice and was rewarded with this cracking 32lb 5oz mirror carp.
His hookbait presentation was a 16mm LiquirigS Multi-Bait with a yellow topper, loaded with Vinnie’s Pop-Up Paste. A simple combination, but one that gave Tom the presentation and attraction he wanted when fishing at range.
Why Presentation Matters When Carp Fishing at Range
The further you fish from the bank, the less opportunity you have to see exactly what is happening around your rig.
You need confidence that the hookbait you cast out is still presenting effectively once it reaches the bottom.
That is one of the advantages of the Multi-Bait Delivery System.
Instead of relying entirely on a conventional boilie to provide both the physical hookbait and the attraction, the Multi-Bait separates the two.
The outer body provides the physical presentation.
You decide what goes inside it.
For Tom, that meant using Vinnie’s Pop-Up Paste inside the 16mm Multi-Bait.
The paste could begin releasing attraction around the hookbait while the Multi-Bait itself continued to provide the presentation.
A Yellow Topper for Added Visibility
Tom also chose a yellow topper.
Changing the topper gives the angler another variable to experiment with without having to completely change the hookbait presentation.
Sometimes a small visual element is enough to make a hookbait stand out against the lakebed and encourage investigation.
It also demonstrates one of the ideas behind the Multi-Bait system: the presentation can remain consistent while individual elements of attraction can be changed.
Colour, paste, liquids and other attractors can all be adjusted depending on the water and the situation in front of you.
Delivering Attraction at Distance
When carp fishing at range, accuracy is only part of the equation.
Getting the rig onto the spot is obviously important, but once it arrives you still need the hookbait to work for you.
The Multi-Bait allows paste to be carried within the hookbait rather than simply moulded around the outside.
As the paste begins to break down, it can release attraction into the surrounding water while the physical hookbait remains in position.
That gives anglers another way of thinking about hookbait.
Rather than asking one piece of bait to do everything, why not separate presentation from attraction?
Confidence in the Rig
There is another part of fishing at distance that is difficult to measure: confidence.
Once you’ve made the cast and put the rod on the rests, you need to believe that what you’ve put out there is still fishing properly.
Constantly winding in simply because you’re uncertain about the hookbait defeats the object.
A presentation you trust allows you to leave the rig working.
Tom trusted his.
And eventually the result was in the net.
32lb 5oz of mirror carp.
The Multi-Bait Approach
Tom’s capture is a good example of what the Multi-Bait was designed to offer.
It isn’t simply an artificial hookbait.
It’s a delivery system.
The physical presentation can remain the same while the attraction inside it changes according to how you want to fish.
Paste. Liquids. Natural attractors. Different colours and buoyancies.
One system, but many possible presentations.
And on this occasion, Tom’s choice was straightforward:
16mm Multi-Bait.
Yellow topper.
Vinnie’s Pop-Up Paste.
Carp fishing at range.
32lb 5oz mirror in the net.
For Tom, that confidence paid off. His result shows how a carefully chosen presentation can make the difference when carp fishing at range.
That’s how it’s done.
